Karakaya Dam is one of the largest dams in Turkey. It is a 158m high concrete gravity dam, with a volume of 2,000,000m³. Karakaya Dam is one of the 22 dams of the Southeastern Anatolia Project of Turkey. The Atatürk Dam (completed in 1990) and the Karakaya Dam (completed in 1986) contribute to approximately 22 percent of the nations’ energy production. Karakaya was a second major step in the development of water resources, as financed by the world bank.
